Boise State, Nike agree to new deal
According to Brian Murphy of the Idaho American Statesman, Nike and Boise State have agreed to terms on a new uniform and merchandising deal with more than $6.24 million for 6 years. The deal is still waiting approval from the State Board of Education (who meets this week), but that seems like a formality at this point.
An excerpt from the article:
Under three existing contracts with Nike, Boise State receives approximately $280,000 per year in cash and products.
Under the new deal — which includes all sports in a single contract — the Broncos will receive $6 million worth of product and equipment.
Breakdown by year:
2013-14: $1 million
2014-15: $1 million
2015-16: $1.15 million
2016-17: $1.15 million
Additionally, the contract calls for an additional $75,000 per year in product allowance when the Broncos’ football program joins the Big East.
Nike has released images of the new US team soccer uniforms (or “kits” if you want to sound European). Is it just me, or do they look almost identical to FC Dallas’ Adidas designed uniforms?

The new USA home kit combines heritage and patriotism in a bold new design that both the Men’s and Women’s teams will debut on the pitch this summer. The jersey utilizes the colors of the American flag with a blue crew neck collar and a body featuring red and white stripes.
The shirt also features a tonal sash to echo the same design on the shirts worn by the US Men’s National Team when they famously defeated England in the 1950 Finals in Brazil.
Both kits are visually identical but the women’s kit is designed specifically for the female athlete to enhance range of motion creating a uniquely feminine silhouette. The American Stars and Stripes flag, affectionately known as ‘Old Glory,’ is placed inside the back of the neck of both versions to inspire pride.
The new home shorts are blue, while the socks – now with improved cushioning for greater comfort – movement and protection, are white with a blue band at the top.
You tell us. Do you like the new designs? I’m kind of partial to the last designs with the “slash” across the chest. I’ve never been fond of FC Dallas’ uniforms, so I guess I’m not fond of these, either.

At our early age, we’ve been accurate about a lot of stories we’ve reported (TCU, University of Texas). We rely on sources in the industry to fill us in on whats going on around the country to help with these stories. But sometimes you get one wrong.
We had two sources telling us that Arizona State was working on a new Sparky logo – and that the project was being led by Nike. While there is a new Sparky in the works, Nike apparently has nothing to do with the new version. And Sparky will continue to be absent on Nike gear this fall, as Nike will use their new pitchfork design that was introduced last year.
We apologize for the mix up.
SportsMerchNews.com has been shown Nike merchandise that was planned for TCU in 2012. This confirms our earlier report that the logo shown was, in fact, the logo Nike and TCU were planning on debuting in 2012 before being scrapped at the last minute by TCU.
Word out of Fort Worth is that the logo was scrapped due to public backlash when the logo was leaked on various websites. TCU will stick with their current logo for now, but apparently they are still in talks with Nike about designing a new “frog” logo.

Marketwatch.com (Wall Street Journal) reports that MLB is on pace for a record year in merchandise sales, thanks especially to the Miami Marlins new uniforms and big name free agent moves. Sales in 2011 were up 10% over 2010 – and 2012 sales are already at a torrid pace.

We focus more on the retail side of the sports world, so we aren’t going to cover much of the new NFL jersey unveiling today. Instead, we’ll start to watch for stories on the new NFL merchandise hitting stores. In the meantime, check out the stories below for more detailed coverage of the new uniforms.

And if you haven’t heard already, the Seattle Seahawks was the only team to receive a uniform overhaul. This will give us a glimpse of what’s to come with NFL uniforms down the road when other teams decide to change their look. Team executives will be watching fan reaction and sales in Seattle like a…well…seahawk (couldn’t resist).

From Press Release: Two premier brands, Tommy Bahama and Major League Baseball, have teamed up once again to offer fans a series of collectible, co-branded shirts that pay homage to America’s favorite pastime, baseball.
The collection will feature six shirts, for six teams including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. There will also be special release of a 2012 All Star Game shirt that was created for the mid summer classic.
This is the third year that Tommy Bahama and MLB have teamed up to offer these shirts, which are only available in limited quantities and for a few, select teams. Continue reading
